When my wife and I owned Manos, we traveled Mexico for 20 Years. During that time, we met countless artisans and got to know many of them very well.
I think that pretty much everything I have done as an artist for the last 30 years has been tempered by that experience.
Certainly, the vivid colors and frequently wild imagery of Mexican Folk Art is always in the back of my mind when I start a painting.
Add to that the current tension over the Mexican border and you have the formula for my work. My paintings are at times humorous and sometimes very political. On a good day, maybe a little of both.
