When we are open there’s Jazz! Tonight January 16th, 7-10pm, La Cour, French Restaurant & Jazz Club, presents a tribute to Billy Wallace.
HERE’S TO LIFE:
Billy Wallace spent a storied lifetime embracing the thousands of songs from The Great American Songbook, though he struggled towards the end. He was still charming, attentive, polite, laughed at the jokes that reached him, poured passion into his arrangements and backed singers with enough room to allow them to wiggle when a lyric and lick needed wiggling. He knew thousands of songs, and loved to pull out tunes from the bygone days by request.
But there were also moments when he would begin a tune and not know how to end it. There were moments when he played one song and jumped to another. And yet, when he played, he was still performing at a dazzling level despite being 87 years of wonder. He consistently dressed to kill, tie, suit, hat, and carried an elegance that could only be found in places like Montreal and New York.
A lifetime spent performing with great and famous jazz musicians such as Charlie Parker, Billy Holiday, Anita O’Day and Max Roach, made for an exciting life, filled to the brim with memories and stories of days long past.
This great musician passed recently, on December 6th. His friends here in Denver will be performing a tribute show to this man on January 9th, from 7-10pm, playing all of the many songs Billy knew and loved.
Featured, will be Jean-Marie Jazz, Syd Harriet, Jerome Gilmer, and many more.
Join us all at La Cour for a tribute show for one of the greatest pianists to grace our floors.
Reservations are very much recommended, as we anticipate a huge outpouring of love for this wonderful man.
