When we are open there’s Jazz! Tonight January 24th 7-10pm, La Cour, French Restaurant & Jazz Club, presents “Jazzical” by Syd Harriet & Ron Kientz
Make your Wednesday evening memorable by experiencing a uniquely and elegantly rich musical three-hour symbiosis jazzing the Great American Songbook cross-pollinated with popular classical piano pieces by Chopin, Liszt, Mozart, Gershwin, Brahms, and others. Best of all, to make this a special occasion for you and your guests, vocalist and host Syd Harriet and pianist Ron Kientz will honor and perform requests for your favorite jazz and classical compositions. Want to hear a tune by Johnny Mercer, Cole Porter, Jerome Kern, Sergei Rachmaninoff or someone else? No Problem. Just ask, sit back and enjoy.
Syd Harriet has hosted jazz radio shows in Newport, Rhode Island, New York, Michigan, Oregon, Arizona, and in California at KPFA in Berkeley, KQED in San Francisco, and KAAT, in Fresno. He has performed the Great American Songbook throughout the U.S. including the Sahara Hotel in Las Vegas. In addition to hosting and singing, Syd is a published author, has recorded five jazz albums and most recently produced an album by Billy Wallace who he has performed with in Denver since 2014. He was in private practice for more than twenty years as a clinical psychologist specializing in anxiety disorders and issues related to performance. But, don’t worry, during the gig, you need not fear being analyzed. There are no couches at La Cour.
Ron Kientz is like a young Billy Wallace. Where Billy Wallace knows 4,000 songs, Ron knows over 2,000 ranging from classical to Jazz to ragtime, and hundreds from the Great American Songbook. He has performed in numerous Denver venues including Dino’s Other Place, The Perfect Landing, La Scala, Nonnas Italian Bistro, The Pinehurst and Columbine Country Clubs, and for fifteen years was the in house pianist at Nordstrom. He is a graduate, Summa Cum Laude, from the Lamont School of Music at the University of Denver where he has won numerous performance awards His recent albums, Essence and Mosaic, can now be heard on You Tube. Give a listen and hear for yourself why he has been known to have fingers with eyes and wrists of steel.
